v.0.0.1
On December 21st, 1805, just west of Cape Trafalgar, 27 British ships of the line led by Admiral Lord Nelson aboard HMS Victory engage 33 ships of the line of the combined fleets of the French and Spanish Navies, let by Admiral Villeneuve. This game simulates the historic battle
Counters represent ships, and each counter represents one ship
Name: real name of the ship during the battle
Type: the higher the number of the mast the higher the range and firepower of the ship represented on the counter
There are four typesHull points: is the capability of the ship to support damage, during the battle when a ship is strike by enemy fire, its hull integrity can be damaged, reducing the movement capacity and its firepower.
Combat factor: This is the maximum damage points a ship can do to an enemy ship during an attack, the effectiveness of an attack depends on the distance, for each hexagon the ship is away from its target the effective damage is reduced by one.
Movement factors: is the maximum number of hexagons a ship can move in one turn, although it can move fewer hexagons or simply don't move. When you want to finish the movement of a ship and make it stay in its current position double tap on the counter.
Both movement factor and combat factors are reduced accordingly when the ship loses hull points as a result of hits produced by enemy attacks. Once a ship loses all its hull points, the ship sunk and it disapears from the board game.
Only one ship can be placed in a hexagon. On the first version of the game ships have pre-assigned starting positions in the board. This might change in future versions to allow a richer starting point for the battle. If you badly want this let me know, you can reach me at gamemaster@daysofconquest.com
The game is played in turns, a turn consist of a moving phase and an attacking phase, once those the two phases are completed then is the other player time to perform the 2 phases, given it the opportunity to move and attack
Due to the battle readiness of the english fleet in the historic context, the english players have the initiative and move first in all the scenarios
After the movement phase ships that have enemy ships in range will display its combat factor in black and a waiving flag. To attack an enemy ship tap on the ship you want to use to fire and drag the finger till it reaches the enemy ship
A ship can only attack once per turn, once a ship has perform its attack you'll see that its combat factor turns grey
Ships can attack ships at different distances, and there is no restriction on which ship you can select as a target of the attack, however the attack effectiveness depends on distances so we recomend you to fire ships closer to you
The damage produced by the ship is determine by the combat factor, for every hexagon between the firing ships and the target ship the damage produced is reduced by one
Ships of the line can fire further than schooners, see table below, and the chances to hit a ship are also reduced by distance. Ships of the line have higher chances to impact than schooners, being the first ones deadly at close range.
| Ship Type | 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 |
| Ship of the line (4 masts) | 100% | 85% | 65% | 50% | 35% |
| Frigate (3 masts) | 85% | 65% | 50% | 35% | 0% |
